Dr. Stewart holds the NSERC Chair in Extreme Weather within the Dept. of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University and is an Adjunct Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, York University. He was previously a Senior Scientist in the Meteorological Service of Canada. Ron taught at the University of Toronto and the University of Wyoming. Ron was President of Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) for 2001/2002. He has led or chaired numerous scientific programs, to name but a few: chair of the GEWEX Hydrometeorology Panel, chair of the Canadian National Committee for IUGG, lead scientist for both Canadian Atlantic Storms Program I & II, lead scientist for the Canadian contribution to ERICA, lead scientist for BASE, chair of the MAGS Science Committee, and chair of IAMAP Mesoscale Working Group. Ron is widely published, with more than 200 papers in the peer-reviewed literature (75) and in conference proceedings and reports. He has provided formal scientific advice on many international activities, including, the 14-country Baltic Sea Experiment, U.S. National Research Council on Water Cycle Research, U.S. NOAA on weather modification, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for snowfall enhancement, and WMO on precipitation processes in stratiform clouds. Amongst his awards, Ron has received the Environmental Research Excellence Award from GKSS, Germany, and the President's Prize of CMOS and he was selected for the Advanced Study Program at NCAR.
