Ron Hopkinson has been an active member of CMOS since 1969 and served on the executive of both the Halifax and Saskatchewan Centres. From March 1999 to early March 2006, he was the chair of the CMOS Saskatchewan Centre and participated on CMOS Council.

Ron earned his B.Sc. (Physics) from the University of Regina in 1968 and his M.Sc. (Meteorology) from the University of Alberta in 1972. His 35 years in the Meteorological Service of Canada included two years in Whitehorse and seven years in Halifax/Bedford in operational forecasting. In 1979, he moved to Saskatchewan to a position in Scientific Services that had formerly been the Prairie Hydrometeorologist. For 24 years he was member of the Committee on Hydrology of Prairie Provinces Water Board and provided hydrometeorological and climatological services to water management agencies and engineering firms on the prairies. Since his retirement in 2003, he has operated a small consulting firm, Custom Climate Services which is listed on the CMOS Private Sector Directory.
