Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking a Physical Oceanographer for the Met-Ocean Services team based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The Met-Ocean Services group delivers comprehensive consulting, analytical and numerical modelling applications of physical oceanography to support clients in a wide range of offshore and coastal operations, as well as the design and engineering of critical infrastructure. Our research interests include deterministic and probabilistic flood hazard assessment due to tsunami and storm surge; ocean circulation, sediment and contaminant transport; oil spill and ice trajectory forecasting; and analysis of climatological normals and extremes to support the development of design criteria. The work is stimulating, fast-paced and challenging, with scope and opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams across the world.

Skills / Qualifications

Required

  • MSc or PhD degree in Physical Oceanography, Coastal Engineering, or a related field
  • Programming experience (Matlab, Python)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills (English)

Preferred

  • Experience in numerical ocean modelling with Delft3D, MIKE, Telemac or related models
  • 2-5 years of experience in a consulting or applied research environment
  • Experience in numerical modelling of storm surge and waves, coastal circulation and sediment transport
