About Sander Schimmelpenninck
Sander Schimmelpenninck became a serious amateur meteorologist
at age 11 in the Netherlands during World War II. A family friend gave
him a combination thermometer-hrygrometer and a German-language weather
textbook published in 1900. In high school Sandy studied the daily mimeographed
surface analyses mailed by KNMI, the Dutch weather office. His weather
hobby intensified in the 1970s and '80s when he flew as an instrument-rated
private pilot. "I would get a face-to-face weather briefing even before
practicing takeoffs and landings", he says. He became a severe-weather
watcher for Environment Canada in the early 1970s and a climatological
observer in 1990. Now a retired businessman, Sandy lives in Oakville, Ontario
with his wife of 47 years.

C'est à l'age d'onze ans que Sander Schimmelpenninck,
né aux Pays Bas, devint un amateur sérieux de météorologie,
grâce à un ami de sa famille qui lui offrit un thermomètre/hygromètre
aussi qu'un livre sur la météorologie publié en 1900.
Au lycée Sander lisait déja les analyses synoptiques quotidiennes
distribuées pas l'Institut royal néerlandais météorologique.
Son intérêt s'intensifiait pendant ses années de pilote
privé de vol sur instruments. Sander est rapporteur de temps hasardeux
pour Environnement Canada depuis 1974 et observateur climatologique depuis
1990. Homme d'affaires retraîté il habite Oakville dans l'Ontario
avec sa famille.
