Private
Sector Committee - Terms of Reference
1. To promote, develop,
implement
and maintain
a private sector role in and outside the Society for the benefit of all
Canadians through appropriate strategies, priorities, programs,
partnerships,
and activities related to meteorology and oceanography.
2. To act as an advisory
group to
the CMOS
Executive and Council on matters related to the private sector in
Canada
and elsewhere.
3. To maintain an active
list of
private
sector companies and their specialties.
4. To consult and
communicate
with the
appropriate government departments in Canada through a variety of means
such as regular meetings with the Operational Management Committee and
regional centres of the Meteorological Service of Canada.
5. To meet and organize one
or
more discussion
sessions at each CMOS Congress.
6. To foster a relationship
with
other
private sector interest groups in the US and elsewhere.
Mode of Operation:
The
Committee
will normally work and meet by e-mail and will hold at least one
teleconference
per year. It may also appoint ad hoc working or study groups as
required.
Membership and Terms of
Office:
There shall be 5 or more members of the committee, each appointed for a
three-year term with the option to renew.
Committee Level:
This is a
Council-appointed
Committee.
Report: The
Committee will
produce
an annual report in accordance with Appendix III to the By-Laws.
Core Activities
1. To serve as the focus
for
private sector
issues of importance to the Society.
2. To advocate, as
necessary, for
and on
behalf of the private sector in meteorology and oceanography, in the
context
of societal activities and initiatives.
3. To support the CMOS
Executive
and Council
on private sector matters as required.
