Rich PawlowiczTreasurerDr. Rich Pawlowicz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of British Columbia. Prof. Pawlowicz began as an electrical engineer at Queen's University in Kingston, but decided that the oceans looked more fun. He did his doctoral work in ocean acoustics in the Woods Hole/MIT Joint Program under Jim Lynch, and was a postdoc with David Farmer at the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, B.C. He is an observational oceanographer, spending his time taking measurements in the field and trying to understand internal waves in stratified flows, lake dynamics, tidal analysis, and the coupling between physical and biological processes in B. C coastal waters. In 2003 he was awarded the CMOS prize in Applied Oceanography. |
